News Flash: Wattles wins Silver Medal for its Lamb meat at the 2011 Taste of the West Awards

Deep in the heart of Somerset, England, adjacent to the City of Wells, is Wattles. This is the home of prize winning cider, lamb and wiltshire horn flock. Wattles is the creation of Paul & Helen and represent our love for nature; with a focus on high standards both in terms of animal welfare and also in the quality of the product itself. The Wattles philosophy is one of providing our customers with affordable, high quality, fresh lamb and apple products.

wattles at weddingWattles are winners of the Taste of the West Silver Medals for our Cider-Apple Juice and our Sheep Meat. Taste of the West acknowledges the highest quality food and drink from the South West of England. Wattles are members of Levels Best who identify Somerset's highest quality food producers. Our sheep have also won top prizes at the Bath&West Show, including Breed Champion, and, at Wiltshire Horn Society flock competitions.

In 2010 we supplied the Broadclyst Community Farm, based at the National Trust’s Killerton Estate, Exeter, with its 18 sheep ‘starter flock’.

Visit our internet shop page for details of this seasons lamb, cider, honey and Kingston apple juice for sale; or our alternative website for livestock availability. We are listed, along with all other cider producers in Somerset, at UKCider, and at the web home of artisan cider makers, Ciderpunk. You can also visit us on Facebook.

Our award winning lamb is reared outdoors on our herb-rich pastures keeping them naturally resilient to illness; this eliminates the need for regular treatment, including antibiotics. We sell much of the produce to local restaurants and ‘half box lambs’ butchered to order from the farm.

Our award winning cider and cider-apple juice are crafted in small batches using fresh, hand picked, unsprayed fruit with minimal intervention. The apples are just washed, milled, macerated, and pressed. The resultant juice is then bottled as our medium-dry Kingston 'non-alcoholic' cider-apple juice or fermented and then aged in French-oak barrels to make our refreshing cider.

As well as buying from the internet shop Wattles products are now available in London, at Betty Blythe, London, W14; and in Somerset, from Priddy Farm Shop and Westbury-sub-Mendip Village store.
